ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Jacques Roy is once again the mayor of Alexandria. The mayor-elect was officially sworn in on Monday, Dec. 5, for his fourth term in office. His first three terms came consecutively from 2006-2018.

In front of a crowded room at the Riverfront Center, the newly sworn-in mayor said that public safety will be the top priority for a city experiencing record crime rates and homicide numbers over the recent years. He also addressed the vacancies at the Alexandria Police Department, saying that officers are leaving for other departments offering less pay and benefits. Mayor Roy is implementing his 100-day plan, which includes hiring a minimum of 50 officers and a better incentive plan to retain those officers.

“We need a safe city, we need to provide the basics and when we set that table that way. We have to go as they say in Avoyelles Parish: We need to go whole hog on workforce readiness and having a workforce ready to meet the future,” Mayor Roy said.

Mayor Roy’s 100-day plan also includes restoring aging infrastructure around the city and aiding over 2,500 residents still struggling to pay utility bills.
