VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB) - One man has been arrested and another is still wanted in reference to a drive-by shooting that took place on February 3 near the Billy Goat Hill area.
According to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, Malik Phillips, 20, of New Llano, was arrested on December 10. An arrest warrant has also been issued for Trevon Hairston, 25, of Leesville, who has been identified as the shooter.
VPSO responded to a convenience store at Hwy 171 and Hwy 10 after a victim who had been shot was reported to be inside the store.
Witnesses said that they had left a night club on Billy Goat Hill and were traveling south when a car approached their vehicle and fired several shots into the victim's car.
The victim, Joshua Charles McBridge, 28, of DeRidder, was transported to a local medical facility for treatment. McBride was later transported to a medical facility in Rapides Parish to undergo further treatment, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on August 19.
Phillips was charged with one count of first-degree murder (drive-by shooting), three counts of assault by drive-by shooting and one count of illegal discharge of a weapon. 30th JDC Judge Scott Westerchil set Phillip's bond at $2.15 million.
