101-year-old New Orleans university building 1st dormitory

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A 101-year-old Catholic university in New Orleans is building its first residence hall.

The University of Holy Cross plans a ceremony Tuesday morning to celebrate work on the four-story, 60,000-square-foot (5,600-sq. meter) building.

The exteriors are completed on the first two floors. A news release said the $14 million dorm will open next year and hold up to 135 students.

It will be the first college dorm ever built in the section of New Orleans on the Mississippi River's west bank.

It will include singles and two- and four-bedroom suites. The suites will have mini-kitchens. All students will share a community kitchen.

The dorm will include a community living room, conference centers, a fitness center, laundry facilities, a prayer and meditation room, and six study rooms.
