UPDATE: All lanes are open on I-49 North at Rapides Station Road (Exit 94). Congestion has reached approximately 6 miles in length.

According to Louisiana State Police, an 18-wheeler crash caused traffic to be rerouted for most of the day.

The crash occurred on River Road (Rapides Station Exit) at I-49 where an 18-wheeler overturned. The vehicle was carrying hydrochloric acid.

Both northbound lanes of I-49 from the Airbase Road Exit to Boyce are closed. The closure is expected to be for an extended period of time.

All northbound traffic will have to exit I-49 at the Airbase Road Exit and travel north on LA Hwy 1 to Boyce to re-enter I-49.

Please avoid the area if at all possible. Both southbound lanes of I-49 remain open, as of now.
