UPDATE: 2 killed in head on collision in Kolin on Saturday

UPDATE (3/26/17 at 9:30 a.m.) - Louisiana State Police have confirmed that Tyler S. Deville, 22, was pronounced dead from the injuries he received in the Saturday afternoon crash.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Saturday afternoon, a fatal crash involving two vehicles killed Taylor C. Basco, 18, of Deville and seriously injured another.

Troopers responded to the crash around 2:00 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 107 south of LA Hwy 3128.

The crash involved a 2011 Ford pickup, driven by Jonathan T. Hooper, 19, of Pineville and a 1997 GMC pickup, driven by Timothy S. Darnall, 19, of Pineville.

Hooper was headed northbound on LA Hwy 107 when he lost control and crossed the centerline into the southbound lane. Hooper then steered his vehicle back to the right. However, in an attempt to avoid Hooper's vehicle, Darnall steered his vehicle to the left, resulting in a head on collision.

Darnall had two passengers in his vehicle. Basco, who was pronounced dead, and Tyler S. Deville, 22, who received serious injuries. Both Deville and Darnall, who received moderate injuries, were transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center.

Hooper received minor injuries.

According to the troopers, the drivers and the passengers were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
