COUSHATTA, La. (KSLA / AP) - Two teenagers are believed to have killed themselves within days of each other at a youth detention center in Red River Parish.

The Red River Parish Sheriff's Office said a 17-year-old died Thursday night, followed by a 13-year-old on Saturday night. They were both at the Ware Youth Center in Coushatta.

“We have had two male residents take their own life in separate incidents," said Joey Cox, the Executive Director of the facility. "Both of the incidents occurred within 72 hours of each other. As is customary to any incident of this nature, it is currently under investigation by the authorities. Our thoughts and prayers are with both of these young men and their families and friends during this difficult time."

Red River Chief Deputy Greg Moore said that an investigation is underway.

Sheriff Glen Edwards said the deaths appear unrelated. He added that the results of the investigation would be turned over to the local district attorney.
