Deputy-Involved Shooting:

New details were released yesterday evening that explain more of what happened when a deputy shot and killed a burglary suspect last week in Mamou. According to Louisiana State Police, the deputy stopped a man and a woman on a 4-wheeler (27-year-old now deceased Dejuan Guillory and his girlfriend 21-year-old Dequince Brown), after an ATV had recently been reported stolen. The officer asked the two for identification (which neither had) and in the process, Guillory apparently struck the deputy in the head, knocking him to the ground.

Then it’s claimed that the deputy was able to get up with his gun and get Guillory to lie on the ground. Then, a struggle ensued. It was then that Brown approached the deputy from behind, and began to choke him and bite him. After this, the officer shot and killed Guillory.

It’s important to note that this is different from the account Brown gave after the incident. She claims the deputy shot Guillory before any altercation happened, when his hands were behind his back. After Brown jumped on the officer, she says he shot Guillory 3 more times. Of course this event is still under investigation, and we will keep you updated with any new information.

Military Plane Crash:

In Mississippi yesterday evening, 16 people were killed in a plane crash. The Marine aircraft went down in west Mississippi, killing everyone on board. The FBI is now investigating what could’ve happened, it is believed the plane exploded midair (it left debris in all directions 5 miles wide). Right now there seems to be more questions than answers.

Health Care Discussions Continue:

Republican senators are returning to D.C., hopefully prepared to face some more discussions on health care. Protests have been rampant across the capital (including a group of Louisiana families that have children with disabilities hoping to get Sen. Cassidy’s attention). It’s honestly up in the air whether a new bill will pass. At the moment, the GOP can only take 2 votes against the bill- right now there’s 10. Some are suggesting a vote next week, but if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can’t muster up more votes that is just unlikely.

U.S. Soldier Arrested for Ties to ISIS:

Yesterday it was confirmed that over the weekend a U.S. Army soldier was arrested and charged with supporting ISIS. The FBI and the Army had been investigating 34-year-old Ikaika Erik Kang for over a year and they found Kang was "providing material support" to ISIS.

New York Police Officer Laid to Rest Today:

Later today Miosotis Familia will be laid to rest in New York. The 48-year-old police officer was a mother of 3 and a 12-year veteran of the New York Police Department. She was shot and killed in an ambush just last week, in a completely unprovoked attack.
