Nearly eight months later, Montgomery Police officer Kirt Ricks, III is being remembered for being a hero to his family and the community.

As part of the annual National Police Week events in Washington, DC, Ricks’ family was there to remember and honor a life that ended too quickly.

Ricks was one of 158 officers either killed or who died in the line of duty in 2018. For Ricks, it was a deadly car crash last September that ended his watch.

But his memory and legacy will live on as Ricks’ name was one of 213 added to the memorial wall this year.

Among the family who attended was Rick’s fiancé, Sidney Cunningham and their daughter, Sidney, who will be three years old soon.

“He was a good man,” Cunningham said. “He was always the kind of person who’d give you the shirt off his back if it was the last thing he had.

“And over everything else, he was a really good dad to Stormi.”
