7 inmates escaped from Bunkie Sunday night; 2 still on the run
Two inmates remain on the run after seven inmates escaped from the Acadiana Center for Youth in Bunkie.
Beth Morgan, a representative from the Office of Juvenile Justice says law enforcement officers caught four inmates Sunday night. Another inmate was caught early Monday morning.
Bunkie Police Chief Scott Ferguson says the two juveniles who are still at large are from the Lafayette and Jennings area.
He said the inmates did not escape within Bunkie city limits. He also believes the two escapees are most likely no longer in the Bunkie area and adds that safety is his number one priority.
"We going to do the best we can. You know, everybody knows I'm there, you know I've always stood behind the law, I'm going to do the right thing, and you know, I'm just worried about the safety and the way things are being handled out there."
Chief Ferguson says he has reached out to the youth center about increasing security and has not heard back.
He says that ten inmates have escaped from the Bunkie area within the past month and a half.
This is also the second time inmates have escaped from the youth center recently. Three inmates escaped back in September.
If you have any information about the incident or the whereabouts of the other two escapees, you're asked to contact the police department at 346-2664.
The Office of Juvenile Justice, BPD, and Louisiana State Police are all working the investigation.
