AFD needs help filling their boots for muscular dystrophy

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Firefighters were out and about Saturday with boots in hand instead of on their feet.

The Alexandria Fire Department and the Professional Firefighters Association are raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

They are trying to fill their boots, collecting donations along Mall Drive in Alexandria.

The funds will help provide resources and support for MDA care centers. It will also go towards paying the way for more than 100 local kids with muscular dystrophy to have a fun summer camp experience.

Firefighters said they look forward to the fundraiser all year.

"You are helping children out, and lot of times the families are in financial distress because medical bills can pile up quickly," said Capt. Chris Lambright. "It is good to help out people in need and we are glad to be a part of it."

If you missed the boots this weekend, don't worry. Firefighters will be back on Mall Drive, by Hobby Lobby, March 23 and April 13.
