ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Thursday was a big day for firefighters in Alexandria as they unveiled some new additions to their department.
They've just finished building a new Station No. 2 on Jones Street. It's right down the road from the old building located on Broadway Avenue.
The public was welcomed to come down to check out all its latest features. While there, they could even take a look at the department’s brand new truck. AFD acquired Engine 20 a little more than a month ago, and it will call the new station its home.
Chief Larry King said this update was part of a plan the department made in 2008, and he's happy to show it off.
"It’s a great feeling,” expressed Chief King. “If you pass the old station and then come into this one, it's an amazing facility, state of the art. The alarm goes off, the lights come on. It's great. I'm sure the guys are going to love it here."
Chief King also said they are still looking to either relocate or renovate Stations No. 1 and 3.
