APD investigating after body of woman found on Woodard Street

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding a woman's body found in a vacant lot on Woodard Street.

The woman was found on January 1, around 10:22 a.m., in blue clothing, lying in the grass near the road in the 700 block of Woodard Street.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death. There is currently no sign that the death was a homicide.
