ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - In the last year, Central Louisiana’s leading pro-life ministry has helped more than 300 women, according to Brian Gunter, the center’s Board President.

He also said nearly $90,000 were raised at last year’s fundraiser, and this year all proceeds will go towards helping the Alexandria and Avoyelles locations.

To help celebrate the center's achievements, Melissa Ohden, an abortion survivor, joined the banquet as a guest speaker to tell her story.

"My birth mother, 42 years ago, was forced to have a saline-infused abortion by her family,” Ohden explained. “That type of procedure was meant to poison and skull me to death, and they believed that the abortion had succeeded.” She added, “Her labor was induced on the fifth day of that procedure and I was accidentally born alive."

Ohden is also the author of a book, titled "You Carried Me: A Daughters Memoir".
