Alabama man arrested in Alexandria for kidnapping, rape of missing Florida teen
Update: The bond for Jonathan Gibson has been listed as $4.5 million.
An Alabama man has been arrested in Alexandria on kidnapping and rape charges after being found with a missing Florida girl in a motel room on MacArthur Drive.
The Alexandria Police Department received a tip that a missing 14-year-old girl from Florida was being held captive by a 30-year-old man in an Alexandria motel.
The suspect was also reported to be with his female relative and her small child, and had reportedly said if he was contacted by police, he would kill the 14-year-old. Dispatch confirmed through NCIC that the girl had been reported missing through a sheriff’s office in Florida.
Officers discreetly met with the female relative and her child, who were walking outside of the motel rooms and escorted them to safety.
Patrol officers then located the male suspect standing on the balcony outside his room. After making verbal contact with him, they were able to convince him to come down the stairs. He was taken into custody without incident and officers then made contact with the 14-year-old girl inside the room, who was safe, despite minor injuries.
All individuals were brought to APD Headquarters to be interviewed.
Officers learned that the suspect, identified as Jonathan Gibson of Lillian, Alabama, had raped the victim on multiple occasions. Gibson was charged with second-degree kidnapping and four counts of first-degree rape. He was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center and booked on the charges.
