Alexandria dental surgeons giving brand new smile to local resident
They say a picture is worth a thousand words but for one Alexandria woman, hers will be worth thousands of dollars.
Out of 478 applicants, the Alexandria Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center picked Rebecca Hillman as their Smile Again Program recipient.
It's the first year that doctors at the center and local donators have pulled their resources together to pay for a patient's dental surgery.
Doctors said they are happy to give back to a veteran.
Hillman is former National Guard and served two tours in Iraq.
Hillman was invited to the recipient reveal on Friday, all the while thinking she and another applicant were waiting in the audience.
She said this opportunity means the world.
"They called me and told me that there were 500 applicants and that they had narrowed it down to 20, and that I needed to come in for an interview," Hillman said. "So, I came in and then she called me a few days later that they had narrowed it down to the final two, and that they were going to make the announcement today. And then come to find out it was just me."
In the next few weeks Hillman will undergo two full arch restoration surgeries that would cost up to $50,000. Giving her a life changing smile, free of charge.
