Alexandria Police Jury honors KALB's First Alert Storm Team
The KALB First Alert Storm Team received a special honor on Monday, courtesy of the Rapides Parish Police Jury.
Jury member Sean McGlothlin presented the team with a certificate of appreciation for their potentially life-saving coverage of the tornado that hit our viewing area on December 16.
The EF-3 category tornado caused severe destruction and damage in several areas across the parish.
McGlothlin says that while traveling the area after the tornado, one of the things that he heard from people most was praise for the warnings that Chief Meteorologist Tom Konvicka and his team gave to viewers.
“If it wasn't for them, there would have been a lot more damages to life and body,” McGlothlin said.
“I kind of liken it to what a coach says: they say that we take it one game at a time,” Tom Konvicka said. “It's a cliché but it's true. We have to take these weather situations a day at a time, a situation at a time. We show up to play the game, see what it's got to offer and we're ready to react best to when and what it does.”
