ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - With less than a week before Thanksgiving some groups are already getting into the holiday spirit and giving back to the community.
Over at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church members held a community feeding day on Saturday. They invited anyone and everyone in the area to come and get a hot meal.
Now the church does a community day every third Saturday of the month. They invite people down for health checkups, lunch, and to take a look through some donated clothes.
Their policy is ‘if you can fit in it, you can have it.’ The big difference on Saturday was a special Thanksgiving meal.
Reverend Roger Green said the event is one of his favorite parts of the job.
"There's a lot of people that are in need,” said Rev. Green. “We sit and we eat, and we thank God for our food. We've got to realize that some people don't have meals. They never eat, they never get a chance to eat. And we want to be that beacon, that light in our community. Let them know that we will feed you, we will clothe you, and we will take care of you. We're doing these things because that's what Christ is calling us to do."
The Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church does this every third Saturday, so if you missed it on Saturday, come down next month. They said they'd love to have you.
