Alexandria man accused of beating pregnant girlfriend unconscious found guilty
Trial for Joseph Michael Elie III, the Alexandria man charged with second-degree battery, wrapped up on Thursday evening when a Rapides Parish jury found him guilty of the charge.
The charge is one of many, stemming from allegations that Elie beat his pregnant girlfriend unconscious in Sept. 2018 before setting a home on fire on Madeline Street just months later.
Elie has had a lengthy criminal history in Rapides Parish, beginning with the 1994 stabbing death of 82-year-old Rita Rabalais when he was just 17 years old.
Judge Mary Doggett will sentence Elie at the Rapides Parish Courthouse on Feb. 26.
