On April 27, around 2:30 a.m., APD officers responded to an alarm activation at a business in the 1800 block of Lee Street.

When officers arrived, they found the front door had been forced open, and officers cleared the building. The owner arrived and a review of the surveillance video footage showed the suspect forcing open the door and then taking items, including the keys to a car. The suspect then exited the building and used the keys to steal a car, driving it through a fence and then fleeing the scene.

A patrol officer located the stolen car shortly after on East Texas Ave, near Lee Street. Officers followed the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however the suspect fled in the stolen car.

After a brief pursuit, the suspect lost control of the vehicle on Dixie Lane, near Turtle Bend. The suspect then got out of the car and fled on foot, but officers were able to quickly take him into custody behind a nearby house.

The suspect was identified as Jerrell Antwine, 32, of Alexandria. He was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Simple Burglary, and Aggravated Flight from an Officer.
