Alexandria man killed in 4 vehicle crash on HWY 28 East

An Alexandria man is dead following a four-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 28 East on Tuesday that tied up traffic for a couple of hours.
According to Louisiana State Police, a large box truck driven by Londell Smith Jr., 30, of West Monroe was heading west on Highway 28 near the LaSalle/Rapides Parish line when he crossed the center line in an apparent attempt to pass another car.
The truck hit head-on with a pickup driven by William Lewis, 86, of Alexandria who was killed in the accident. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Two other cars were involved with one driver, Isaac H. Carloss Jr., 38, of Wildsville, suffering minor injuries and another, Dillon P. McTernan, 35, of Pineville, that wasn’t injured. Both men were wearing their seatbelts.
Smith, who received minor injuries, was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and booked into the LaSalle Parish Detention Center.
The crash remains under investigation.
