Another installment from the weather desk
OAKDALE STORM UPDATE
The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Lake Charles confirmed that storm damage near Oakdale was caused by a tornado. Their investigation confirmed a tornado touched down on the south side of Oakdale near the Wal-Mart and caused damage to a gas station canopy. The tornado moved northeast and crossed Highway 165 in Oakdale. Trees were snapped with some trees landing on homes and businesses. Some structures received roof damage. The tornado was rated EF-2, which is consistent with winds between 111 and 136 mph.
TWO JOIN THE HURRICANE HALL OF FAME
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced earlier this week that Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Otto have joined the hurricane hall of fame-these names will be retired.
Matthew devastated Haiti and caused over 500 deaths. Several days later, Matthew brought extreme rains that caused $10 in damage to the southeast coast of the United States and killed 33 people.
Hurricane Otto brought flooding and caused deaths in central America. Otto was the first hurricane since 1851 to score a direct hit on Costa Rica.
April 2017 looks warmer and wetter than is typical. And don't forget about a possible Easter snap late!
