MARKSVILLE, La. (KALB) - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Marksville as the Avoyelles Parish community officially kicked off Christmas with the annual Lighting of the Courthouse on Thursday night.
Everyone invited out to watch as thousands of festive lights and decorations are turned on. They could even join in as multiple choirs from schools and the Tunica-Biloxi tribe sang a few carols.
The big man himself, Santa Claus, even came by to close out the event.
Coordinators said there's no better way to ring in the holiday, especially when so many residents join the fun.
"It’s wonderful, it's great,” expressed Van Roy, Chamber of Commerce. “And we always look forward to everyone coming and bringing their kids to Downtown Marksville to the Courthouse Square. But it makes me feel really good actually. In fact, we're just very much feeling the spirit this year."
If you missed out on Thursday night's event, don't worry the square will be lit up the rest of the holiday season. Make sure to get down to see the lights.
