Avoyelles schools hold unforgettable prom for students with special needs

MARKSVILLE, La. (KALB) - Students in community based training programs across Avoyelles Parish arrived in style to prom Saturday evening.

The event was a team effort planned by Marksville High School staff and students.

The goal is to give students with special needs an unforgettable event.

The free event included food and a DJ to help students dance the night away.

Marksville football players and cheerleaders were also there to have fun.

Marksville's coach said they wanted an event that would help all of their students feel included.

"They are invited to all these things on campus, but you know they don't necessarily always feel comfortable doing it," said Coach Johnathan Landry. "I wanted to give them the opportunity to make some memories and have something they can call their own."

This is the second year they've held the prom.
