ALEXANDRIA, LA (KALB) - We have some good news for the Town of Ball following a presentation of their 2018-2019 audit report on Tuesday evening.
The public was encouraged to attend Tuesday's meeting because for the past three years, the town has been in "noncompliance." But this year, auditors Mark and Steven McKay have an "unmodified opinion." This means the few things that were found that need correcting in the town's budget have been fixed, or there is a plan in place to fix them.
You'll remember last year, audit reports for the 2017-2018 fiscal year resulted in a "disclaimer of opinion," meaning not enough evidence was received in order for the firm to draw an official conclusion. However, the audit reported that the town was non-compliant with several regulations.
According to Mayor Gail Wilking, things are different now, and her goal is to be as transparent as possible with the town's residents about how their money is being spent.
"I'm trying very hard, leaps and bounds, to be transparent, to involve the citizens of the Town of Ball," Wilking said. "I want them to know everything. There's nothing to hide. I want them to feel like they are a part of everything that we do."
Auditors also say that Ball should be removed from the fiscally distressed communities list in Louisiana any day now.
