Most Central Louisiana residents are familiar with Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields. His overall reputation makes it difficult to not know of him.

The Pineville native has been dedicated to his office since formally being elected in 2000, and was recently elected to his sixth term as Mayor after no one qualified to run against him. Fields has been re-elected the last four times as an unopposed candidate.

Clarence Fields was a long-time employee of Cleco before working in local government as a city councilman. He was appointed as Mayor of Pineville in 1999 after Republican Leo Deslatte resigned from office.

His accomplishments as Mayor are extensive; from multi-million dollar projects that rejuvenated Pineville’s business, recreation, and infrastructure, to new residential and commercial development in the last 20 years for the city. Pineville has also won numerous “cleanest city” awards from the Louisiana Garden Club Foundation.

In honor of Black History Month, Sherman Desselle speaks with some people that know him best and surprises the Mayor with the tribute on Jambalaya.
