ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Local business leaders gathered on Monday to learn how to bring farming into the digital age. The Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance heard from "a global thought leader on digital food and regional economic development" at their quarterly luncheon in Alexandria.
Dr. Mark Drabenstott, Co-founder and Chairman for MarketSquare, spoke to CLEDA today about bringing agriculture into the digital age. MarketSquare is a startup company that focuses on what they call "smart food chain." Drabenstott said the company will create a digital farmers market to "unleash farmers potential."
"It's a way to unleash farm potential," said Drabenstott. "Farmers can make smart growth decisions and consumers can make smart buy decisions."
Drabenstott said MarketSquare will be rolling out soon and is in talks with two major metropolitan areas, but did not specify. He said they will make the announcement in the next few months.
"We want farmers who want to be entrepreneurial," said Drabenstott.
