Earlier this month, local officials and staff cut the ribbon on the brand new downtown facility.

On Monday night, the library invited professors to come and meet local vendors and learn about resources available to them downtown.

Rapides Parish Library Public Relations Officer Jennifer Hughes says it’s all about welcoming CLTCC professors to their new home.

"It means a lot to us to see them come downtown, it's a great opportunity for us to see more students come into the library and to see a busier Alexandria,” said Hughes.

The library has also made additional changes for students so that they have a place to study.

“The library has made so many changes to accommodate the students because we’re so glad to have them here downtown. We’ve added study carols, outlets, we’ve added technology, new 3D printer. We wanted to showcase the library and invite our whole downtown community to introduce them to what we have and what downtown has to offer,” said Programming Manager Tara Williamson.

Vendors and local businesses like Word of Mouth, Red River Bank and Century Drug all had booths at the first-ever reception.
