ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - The Food Bank of Central Louisiana held a ribbon cutting for the opening of its newly renovated Main Distribution Center celebrating the completion of its fundraising Capital Campaign.
The Food Bank started the Capital Campaign in an effort to raise funds for this new location, which the organization was in desperate need of developing.
Due to the lack of refrigerated storage capacity, the Bank has been forced to turn away an estimated one million pounds of donated food per year. Their cold storage units were built in 1996, and the Food Bank’s distribution had increased 72 percent since that time.
The Food Bank Board has also created a facilities committee to oversee the development of the Capital Campaign project and others for the future sustainability and growth of the organization.
The Food Bank raised $3.5 million for this project.
