The workshop that is hosted by professional educators, song writers, and musicians taught veterans the craft of song writing.

Alexandria native, David Romain led participants in creating the songs by drawing out information from their past, organizing those memories into verses and choruses.

As Romain shed tears during some moments, he explained, he's thankful that he's able to share his music talents with others, in a special way.

"I never realized that I was supposed to step back and stop looking what I wanted,” Romain expressed. “I started focusing on a more selfless, purpose to my music and I think at the age of forty I realized that I was supposed to do something more than just going out to perform for people.”

The next Songs of Survivors workshop will be held Saturday September 21 in Shreveport at 10 a.m. at the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.
