PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - Fly Tyers from several states visited Pineville for the annual Cenla Fly Fishing and Light Tackle Festival at Kees Park.
For the third year, the Kisatchie Fly Fishers have hosted the event that features seminars, exhibitors, fly tying and more.
Fly tying is the making of artificial flies used in fly fishing to catch fish.
President of Kisatchie Fly Fishers, Mike Carlin, said this event is important for Cenla because of the large amount of lakes and streams in the area.
"A lot of people think fly fishing is just for mountain streams and fishing for trout,” Carlin explained. “But you can catch bass on it, you can use it to catch red fish, speckled trout in salt water, flounder, just about any species of fish including huge tarpon can be caught with a fly fishing rig."
Proceeds from the fly fishing festival will benefit the Food Bank of Central Louisiana.
