ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Remembering those who have served and continue to serve our country in uniform, Cherokee Elementary students held a special Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday.
The Cherokee gym was packed with American pride as teachers, students and their family members gathered to honor the United States military.
Students in grades third, fourth and fifth grade spent the last few weeks creating posters and preparing special songs to show their gratitude for veterans.
Alexandria Senior High's choir and Marine Junior ROTC students were also involved singing the national anthem, posting the colors and performing a drill routine.
During the ceremony each military branch was asked to stand as their branch's official song was played.
Students were thrilled to honor all veterans but especially those that they call mom and dad.
"It is a special feeling every year," said retired Army National Guard parent Chris Jackson. "We come out and I make sure I support my daughter. This is special because after serving in the military it is an honor that the school would take their time to appreciate the veterans."
This Saturday Veterans Day events are happening all around Cenla.
