Local schools, churches, and families joined at the Food Bank of Central Louisiana Saturday morning for the annual Christmas Cheer Food Drive Sorting Day.

Every year we team up with the Food Bank of Central Louisiana and the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe to put on the Christmas Cheer Food Drive.

After a week of collecting non-perishable items from Grant Parish, Avoyelles Parish, Natchitoches, and Rapides, volunteers sorted through thousands of pounds of food to distribute back into their communities.

"It's really fun to go here and also it helps others cause I see a lot of people on the streets that don't have a lot of food,” Cassidy Beall, a 5th grade Phoenix Magnet student said. “And it makes me sad because I have a lot of food, and they don't have any food so I like to donate because it helps others."

We will be visiting Vernon Parish on Tuesday to collect food from their schools.
