Packing books, pencils and paper are the essentials of a typical school day. A new initiative wants to include a smile with every student’s day.

It’s Together Tuesday. A plan to bring the community together and show students unity.

It’s the first Tuesday of every month.

Students at Rugg Elementary School were greeted by teachers and faculty at their school, Cleco employees and their mascot, Hot Spot. They gave hugs and high fives to kid as they arrived at school.

Hot Spot also joined the students for the Pledge of Allegiance and morning announcements.

Tracy Siebeneicher, Principal of Rugg Elementary, said she noticed a “glow” on her students' faces.

Cleco employees also got their share of fun along with the students. They danced to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, “Firework” by Katy Perry and to the oldie, “Walking on Sunshine.”

The next event will be Jan. 7 at Brame Middle School.

Rapides Parish Schools welcome any parents, community leaders or organizations who would like to join them on Together Tuesdays. Those interested should contact their school of choice.
