PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - With Memorial Day close by, the Vet Center and the Louisiana National Guard wanted to start recognizing military veterans.
They held a memorial remembrance walk at Camp Beauregard, with a special activity planned.
Community members were invited to join them in painting rocks in honor of their loved ones who have served, or are serving, in the United States military.
Once decorated the rocks were placed along a trail next to a loved one's military emblem.
Coordinators said it was a unique way for people to honor the service of their family and friends.
"This is just a very unique way for us to be able to show them that we love them, we support them," said Vet Center Outreach Specialist Kenneth Bates. "We just want people to come out and just show respect to the ones that gave the most for our country."
This was the first remembrance walk event and coordinators hope to make it a new tradition.
