ALEXANDRIA, La. (RPSO) - Dereck Darnell Taylor Jr., 25, a convicted felon from Alexandria, was arrested for the possession of illegal narcotics while also possessing a concealed weapon, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Department.
On May 6, RPSO deputies were conducting an investigation at a local Alexandria motel and subsequently recovered a stolen vehicle reported through the Alexandria Police Department. While completing paperwork to release the vehicle, the deputies saw a small Honda Civic approach their location. The driver of the Civic stopped abruptly and began to back away. Suspicious of their actions, deputies stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Arianna Nicole Baines, 24, of Colfax. While speaking with the Baines, the deputies detected the odor of marijuana. Baines admitted that she had marijuana in her possession and showed it to deputies.
The passenger, Taylor Jr., was then asked to exit the vehicle. As a deputy opened the vehicle door, he pulled a 9mm pistol from his pocket. The deputy quickly disarmed and handcuffed him prior to his removal from the vehicle. When searched, Taylor was found to be in possession of five bags of suspected marijuana, 51 Xanax tablets, and 20 small bags of suspected meth.
Further investigation revealed that Taylor is a convicted felon who is currently on parole. He was transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center and booked in reference to possession of CDS I with intent to distribute, possession of CDS II with intent to distribute, possession of CDS IV with intent to distribute, possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm with drugs, and parole violation.
Taylor is currently being detained at the detention center in lieu of posting a $6,500 bond and the parole violation. Arianna Baines was issued a criminal citation for possession of CDS I and released at the scene.
