Body of Rod Fontenot located in Bayou Nezpique

EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (EPSO) - UPDATE: The body of Rod Fontenot has been located and all search efforts have been terminated at this time.

Authorities are currently searching for a missing man who may have drowned in Bayou Nezpique.

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the Bond Road area at Chretien Lane in response to a report of a possible drowning of Rod Fontenot.

EPSO says Rod and his brother Bryan Fontenot were duck hunting in the bayou when their boat hit a log and overturned. Both brothers were able to swim to the bank but Rod went back into the water to retrieve the boat. He went under and did not resurface.

Louisiana State Wildlife and Fisheries, first responders, fire departments from both Mamou and Ville Platte responded to assist in locating Rod. The search continued for about 4 hours before concluding due to the approach of nightfall.

The search resumed at 7 a.m. Monday morning and is currently underway with the assistance of Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, Louisiana State Wildlife and Fisheries Department, Mamou and Ville Platte Fire Departments.

Deputies and Detectives from Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Investigations Division are also on scene assisting as well.
