Close to 1,000 Rapides Parish residents have already cast their ballots for the October 12 Primary Election. Early voting began in Louisiana on Saturday.

The polls will remain open until next Saturday, October 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., not including Sunday.

All voters who take part in early voting this time around will be the first to get a good look at the state's new voting machines. They're designed to help increase the security of your vote and the integrity of our election process.

Rapides Parish Registrar of Voters Lin Stewart said they've seen a steady flow of voters all day.

"We had predicted 1,000 a day, so we feel really good about the number of people getting out to vote," Stewart said. "We want to encourage people, get out to vote. LSU is playing football the next two Saturdays. We want people to come on and vote early."

Don't forget to wear your pelican voting sticker with pride, to remind others to take advantage of early voting!
