BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. John Bel Edwards is calling for three debates with his Republican challengers in the Louisiana governor's race this fall.
The Democratic incumbent said Wednesday that he wants three, hour-long TV debates against Republican contenders Ralph Abraham and Eddie Rispone between Sept. 2 and the Oct. 12 election.
Edwards says he's already accepted a debate invitation for Sept. 19 in Baton Rouge, to be televised statewide by Nexstar. He says he's searching for two more forums that could be shown on TV across Louisiana, held in different regions of the state.
Abraham, a northeast Louisiana congressman, responded on Twitter, saying there should be debates in each of the state's six congressional districts.
Rispone, a Baton Rouge businessman, hasn't said how many debates he supports.
