UPDATE: Alexandria woman charged with vehicular homicide regarding November 2019 crash

Louisiana State Police has released an update to a fatal crash that occurred in November of 2019, which led to the death of one woman from Elmer and injuring a toddler.

LSP says Kelsey A. Broussard, of Alexandria, has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide in regards to the crash.

She was booked into the Rapides Parish Jail without incident.

Elmer woman killed in crash, toddler injured

An Elmer woman was killed and two others, including a toddler, suffered minor injuries following a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 488, at Castor Plunge Road Thursday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., Kelsey A. Broussard, 23, of Alexandria, was driving eastbound with the toddler and Brooke Deville, 25, when she lost control and exited the right side of the roadway, traveled down an embankment and began overturning.

Broussard was not wearing a seat belt, but only suffered minor injuries. The toddler, who was properly restrained in a child safety seat, also sustained some minor injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Deville was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending.
