Elmer woman killed in crash, toddler injured

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (LSP) - An Elmer woman was killed and two others, including a toddler, suffered minor injuries following a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 488, at Castor Plunge Road Thursday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., Kelsey A. Broussard, 23, of Alexandria, was driving eastbound with the toddler and Brooke Deville, 25, when she lost control and exited the right side of the roadway, traveled down an embankment and began overturning.

Broussard was not wearing a seat belt, but only suffered minor injuries. The toddler, who was properly restrained in a child safety seat, also sustained some minor injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Deville was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
