EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (EPSO) - Deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a medical complaint on August 31 on Hwy 167 N., which led to the arrest an Evangeline Parish man.
A female at the residence said she and her husband had been in a verbal dispute throughout the day. Later that evening, she said she was nearly shot in the head by a stray round from a firearm in her husband's possession.
Deputies learned from the husband, identified as Jarred Todd Leger, that his firearm accidentally fired while in his hands on the porch, nearly striking his wife in the head. The round traveled through the glass of the front door through the home and into a cabinet.
After further investigations, Leger was charged with attempted second-degree murder. He was arrested peacefully and transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail for booking. The warrant of arrest was signed by 13th Judicial Judge Chuck West with no bond, pending a Gwen’s Law Hearing.
A hearing was held at a later date by 13th Judicial Judge Gary Ortego. At this time, the charge was amended to aggravated assault with a firearm and Leger was allowed to post bail.
