The school board's District 62 committee met Tuesday night to find a solution for their small maintenance projects.

Board member Sandra Franklin read work orders she had received for rusted bathroom stall doors and needed fences. Member Willard McCall said that according to the health department, a bathroom at Acadian Elementary needs to be redone.

There was a lot of debate about the process for work orders. They are supposed to go through an administrative maintenance committee. They are then approved or denied based on need, or a school's individual maintenance fund.

A motion was made to give each District 62 school $25,000 for small projects, a total of $525,000 for that district.for each school.

All five committee members voted for the motion and some were particularly passionate.

"All I want to do is go and get some of these things done to make sure snakes don't get into the building," said board member Linda Burgess. "I wouldn't want to use the bathrooms in some of these schools. It doesn't take much to fix these things."

The motion must now go to the full board. They will meet again on October 1.
