Former Town Clerk of Anacoco charged in theft of village funds case

ANACOCO, La. (LSP) - The former Town Clerk of Anacoco has been arrested after being accused of stealing village funds.

Shaunda L. Pridgen, 48, has been charged with 49 counts of misdemeanor theft, three counts of felony theft, 22 counts of public payroll fraud, 58 counts of forgery, and malfeasance in office.

In January 2020, the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office was contacted by village officials to investigate discrepancies discovered during an internal audit. According to LSP, the investigation revealed that Pridgen misappropriated approximately $71,000.00 of town funds.

Based on the information obtained, investigators were able to secure an arrest warrant for Pridgen. She was booked into the Vernon Parish Detention Center on Tuesday.
