ALEXANDRIA, La. (Jermaine Harris) - Former prosecutor Jermaine Harris has announced his candidacy for District Attorney in Rapides Parish in the fall election.
Harris served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office from 2015-2017. Notable trials during that time include: State v. Mark Hayes, State v. Antonio Boyd, and State v. Akeeley Blade. In addition, Harris was the chief architect of the 2016 racketeering case that charged members of the Alexandria based Triple M Murder Team gang.
Harris graduated with honors from Peabody Magnet High in 2004. After graduation, Harris attended Louisiana State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2008. Harris received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2011. After law school, Harris began his legal career as a staff attorney for the New Orleans Public Defender’s Office.
Harris serves in various civic organizations, including the Alexandria Rotary Club and the Young Lawyers Council of Alexandria from 2016-2018.
Harris has two daughters, Harmondy and Taylor. Harris and his daughters are members of St. Matthew Baptist Church.
