Gas leak situation under control in Simmesport
A natural gas line was leaking in Simmesport on Wednesday. After several hours of working on the line, the situation is now fixed and under control.
Authorities had several streets evacuated, including Lincoln Street, Juneau Street, and Carver Street. The gas was shut off to the entire town.
Simmesport Mayor Leslie Draper said about 80-100 people were impacted by the evacuation. There are about 2,200 people in the town. He said that they have had issues with older infrastructures in the past.
“Our work crew will not be able to restore all the residents tonight. This is due to the nature of the restoration process. They will resume restoring services first thing tomorrow morning,” Mayor Draper said on Wednesday evening.
