Gov. Edwards thanks supporters in Monroe before President Trump's arrival

MONROE, La. (KALB) - As Republicans and supporters for President Trump are gathering in Monroe this week, state Democrats had planned their own rally to promote Governor Edwards in his re-election campaign.

However, the planned march from the Ouachita Parish Courthouse to Monroe City Hall has been canceled. On their Facebook page, organizers say they didn't have enough time to file for a permit with the city for the march.

Instead, on Wednesday morning, Governor Edwards gathered campaign volunteers in Charles Johnson Children's Park in Monroe to thank them for their hard work supporting his campaign.

He spoke to the media and addressed what President Trump is expected to say at his visit in Monroe Wednesday afternoon.
