ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Did you know that one in eight couples may experience problems getting pregnant? That's according to a local Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Patrick Tassin.
It’s one of the reasons Tassin is hosting a forum on infertility at the Alexandria Women’s Center. It’s set for Tuesday, April 23 – which is also National Infertility Awareness Week. According to Infertilityawareness.org, the goal of the week is to help in removing the stigmas and barriers that stand in the way of building families.
Dr. Tassin says there’s a lot of myths around infertility, and many people believe every case should be treated alike.
“If you go to the same doctor, people’s experiences can be a lot different and sometimes it leaves a lot of confusion out there,” Tassin said. And people will say, “well he (doctor) did this, and not this and he did the opposite of that, and it worked for you...” there's this sharing of information that sometimes is good, and sometimes it's confusing.”
He also hopes to create a safe space for people with concerns and questions at this session. “Infertility can be a lonely place,” Tassin said. “I’m hoping to help people to realize that they’re not alone.”
The one-hour forum starts at 5:30 PM. Conversations are confidential, and you do not have to be a patient to participate. The Alexandria Women’s Center is located at 3304 Masonic Drive, Suite 4001.
