RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB) - Jury selection will begin on Tuesday for Desmond Harris, 22 of Alexandria, for a second-degree murder charge he faces for the Aug. 2017 shooting death of a 29-year-old Jeffery McGlory on Monroe Street, who many on social media said identified as transgender.

Last week, the attorney for Desmond Harris, Glenn Cortello, tried to get information that police obtained about his client's location by pinging his cellphone suppressed from the trial. But, on Monday, Judge Mary Doggett denied that motion. Harris also declined a last-minute plea offer from the Rapides Parish District Attorney's Office.
If convicted, Harris faces mandatory life in prison. The case is being prosecuted by Cheryl Carter.
