ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - A Rapides Parish grand jury has indicted Kayla Giles, 31, on a charge of first-degree murder.
Giles, who had initially been arrested for second-degree murder, shot her soon-to-be ex-husband, Thomas Coutee, to death in the Walmart parking lot on Coliseum Boulevard on September 8.
First-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence, if convicted, in Louisiana. The Rapides Parish District Attorney's Office has not said if it plans to seek the death penalty for Giles, which can also be an option for prosecutors.
