BUNKIE, La. (KALB) - A Louisiana School for the Agricultural Sciences student represented Central Louisiana after competing in the 2019 National FFA Agriscience Fair.
The 9th-grade student, Austin Spencer, was ranked first in the State FFA Convention last year and decided to aim higher this year.
After months of preparation, Spencer is being named second in the nation for his work in the animal systems division.
"I got an incubator and then I monitored, so I had cameras on each side and I would monitor which egg would hatch first,” Spencer explained. “I was doing this so the poultry industry and sciences could use this information so that they could help and find out why in this area is the egg hatching better than in another area so that they can continue to support the growing population."
Spencer said he plans to compete in the competition again to do an extension of the project.
