ALEXANDRIA, La. (LSP) - A Dry Prong woman died Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 71 south of Alexandria.
Laura M. Cooper, 64, died after the SUV she was driving was hit head-on by a pickup driven by James G. Fontenot, 60, of Cheneyville. State police said that Fontenot was driving south on Hwy. 71 when he lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. His vehicle continued through the median and entered the northbound lanes, resulting in the head-on collision around 5:30 p.m.
Fontenot received moderate injuries and was taken to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment.
Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.
Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
